International Sausage Fair , 22nd – 24th March, 2019, Croatia

From 22nd – 24th March, 2019 the sausage show  “S KLOBASICOM U EU 2019” – this time in central Istria, in the village Sveti Petar u Šumi – will take place. The name of the village is interesting which is coming from the name of the Benedictine monastery first founded as Monasterium Sancti Petri in Sylvis – the Monastery of Saint Peter in the Woods. The first records of the monastery is   from 1174 but the record is accompanied by the annotation saying that the Monastery had stood there for 50 years.

The ‘’Into Europe with homemade sausages’’ fair has been organized since 2013 by the Municipality of Sveti Petar u Šumi in cooperation with Istria County, and the Association of sensory analysts Gustus Pazin, whose expert committee evaluates all the sausages presented at the fair. The fair features manufacturers of sausages and other cured meat products from all parts of Croatia and its neighbouring countries, and also producers of cheese, wine, grappa, pastry, souvenirs and organic farming produce. The main goal of the fair is to promote and encourage the manufacture and trade of sausages and other traditional products, to demonstrate the culinary potential of homemade sausages, to make the customers buy and savour the traditional Istrian sausages, and finally to create an awareness of the quality and the need for the consumption of traditional Istrian products. All this is carried out under the motto: ‘’Let’s bring homemade sausages into each Istrian household’’.

As the mayor of the Municipality of Sveti Petar u Šumi Mario Bratulić would say: “Welcome to Istria! Welcome to ‘’Into Europe with homemade sausages’’ fair at Sveti Petar u Šumi, in the shade of the ancient and notable Pauline monastery bell tower. Visit us, bring your sausages, taste ours and let us savour the best gifts of our regions together!”

If there is an interest to have something like the “Sausage Olympics” as we first put it in WP5 activity, please let us know. This is a nice opportunity to present the TREASURE project, to disseminate results and achievements as the event is very well covered by the media. But even better would be if the Third Party partners show interest and take an active part in the event.

There is still time to enter the contest, the evaluation committee will assembly during the weekend 16^th and 17^th of March; the main event is the fair itself which will take place from 22^nd to 24^th of March.
